I am the way, and the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 14:6
Who is Gog of Magog?
According to the book of 1 Chronicles 5:4, Gog is a descendant of Reuben. This detail is overlooked in most biblical analyses.
1 Chronicles 5:4. „The sons of Joel: Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son,”
Most Bible scholars tend to look for a pattern for Gog among the rulers who existed at the time when this prophecy was first spoken. Personally, I lean toward seeking the answer within the Bible itself, where we find a descendant of Jacob, also called Israel. His firstborn son Reuben should have been the most important heir due to his birthright, but because he committed an unworthy act, he was stripped of this honor.
Genesis 35:22. „While Israel lived in that land, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine. …”
Genesis 49:3-4. „“Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, and the firstfruits of my strength, preeminent in dignity and preeminent in power. Unstable as water, you shall not have preeminence, because you went up to your father’s bed; then you defiled it—he went up to my couch!”
At this point, the association with Israel’s situation during the time of our Lord Yeshu is automatic. Israel as a whole resembles Reuben, who should have had the honor but did not deserve it, and therefore someone else receives the privilege of calling themselves God’s people, the true Israel.
Romans 9:25-28. „As indeed he says in Hosea, “Those who were not my people I will call ‘my people,’ and her who was not beloved I will call ‘beloved.’” “And in the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ there they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’” And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: “Though the number of the sons of Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will be saved, for the Lord will carry out his sentence upon the earth fully and without delay.””
So, we have Gog from the losing, privilege-losing line of Reuben, and we have Israel losing its favored status before God. Gog is not Reuben himself but his later descendant. Similarly, today’s Gog may be a distant descendant of Israel claiming the right to the inheritance. This is a crucial detail and, as you will soon see, not the only one that helps identify who Gog of Magog really is.
Knowing that by rejecting the Son of God, old Israel ceased to be true Israel, and His place was taken by anointed servants and the remnant of those Israelites who believed in Him, all the verses concerning what will happen to or in Israel we will relate to the servants of Christ. End-time prophecies about Gog of Magog fighting against Israel concern the anointed servants, not those people who falsely call themselves Israelites today.
Earlier, I explained that the Beast from the book of Revelation, which becomes the eighth king in the last days, is today’s Jewish state occupying the lands of ancient Israel. I won’t repeat those proofs now; if you don’t remember, please search for topics such as: The Bible predicts the end of Israel, The Antichrist in the service of Israel?, The Sanhedrin—another name for Babylon the Great, The True Face of Babylon the Great, i.e. the Harlot from the book of Revelation, A Brief History of Babylon the Great—what you don’t know about the Great Harlot, Christ reveals who the Great Harlot from Revelation is. (Not all of them been translated yet).
Now we will connect what Revelation says about the Beast, that is the Jewish state, with what the Scriptures say about Gog of Magog, and it turns out they have a lot in common. The Beast and Gog of Magog end their existence in exactly the same way and at the same time.
Revelation 17:10-14. „they are also seven kings, five of whom have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come, and when he does come he must remain only a little while. As for the beast that was and is not, it is an eighth but it belongs to the seven, and it goes to destruction. And the ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received royal power, but they are to receive authority as kings for one hour, together with the beast. These are of one mind, and they hand over their power and authority to the beast. They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.””
Revelation tells us that the Beast will have the support of many nations and that together they will rise up against God and the One ruling on God’s behalf, our Lord. Similarly, Gog of Magog is foretold.
Ezekiel 38:3-6. „and say, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. And I will turn you about and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you out, and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed in full armor, a great host, all of them with buckler and shield, wielding swords. Persia, Cush, and Put are with them, all of them with shield and helmet; Gomer and all his hordes; Beth-togarmah from the uttermost parts of the north with all his hordes—many peoples are with you.”
Ezekiel 38:15-16. „You will come from your place out of the uttermost parts of the north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great host, a mighty army. You will come up against my people Israel, like a cloud covering the land. In the latter days I will bring you against my land, that the nations may know me, when through you, O Gog, I vindicate my holiness before their eyes.”
This will be a coalition of nations allied against God, but of course, they cannot attack God Himself; therefore, they will turn against the anointed servants. Both events, the one in Revelation and the one in Ezekiel, are to unfold simultaneously—in the end times. The conclusion is also very similar, or rather, essentially the same, just recorded a bit differently.
Revelation 19:17-21. „Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly directly overhead, “Come, gather for the great supper of God, to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great.” And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. And the rest were slain by the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.”
Ezekiel 39:1-5. „“And you, son of man, prophesy against Gog and say, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. And I will turn you about and drive you forward, and bring you up from the uttermost parts of the north, and lead you against the mountains of Israel. Then I will strike your bow from your left hand, and will make your arrows drop out of your right hand. You shall fall on the mountains of Israel, you and all your hordes and the peoples who are with you. I will give you to birds of prey of every sort and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. You shall fall in the open field, for I have spoken, declares the Lord God.”
Ezekiel 39:17-20. „“As for you, son of man, thus says the Lord God: Speak to the birds of every sort and to all beasts of the field: ‘Assemble and come, gather from all around to the sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you, a great sacrificial feast on the mountains of Israel, and you shall eat flesh and drink blood. You shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth—of rams, of lambs, and of he-goats, of bulls, all of them fat beasts of Bashan. And you shall eat fat till you are filled, and drink blood till you are drunk, at the sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you. And you shall be filled at my table with horses and charioteers, with mighty men and all kinds of warriors,’ declares the Lord God.”
It therefore seems that Gog and the Beast are the same. However, the Jewish state, as the Beast, represents a very long period in history. Meanwhile, Gog of Magog appears at the end of events and represents a somewhat different phase of the same entity. The Beast carries other kings upon its back, meaning it is a state dependent on world powers. For some time, the Beast did not exist, then it appeared recently and attacked a peaceful country, taking its land; since then, the Jewish state began worshiping the god of fortresses. Its current position, despite propaganda claiming descent from ancient Israel and alleged divine support, is actually based on military power. The Jewish state still has the backing of the seventh power (the USA), but prophecy foretells that it will itself become the eighth power supported by a coalition of allied nations. It is precisely when it reaches the peak of its power that it becomes Gog, who opposes God. When the Jewish state appears in the last days, it essentially takes on the role of Gog—the oppressive state that, together with other rulers, hates the anointed servants. Currently, we are witnessing horrifying murders carried out against anyone who admits faith in the Anointed One of God.
This is a process of dreadful persecution, which we can certainly recognize as a great tribulation for those it reaches. It appears to be the beginning of that tribulation, although even before, it was not easy for followers of Christ, who were burned at the stake even in Christian countries. Currently, these persecutions are carried out by so-called Islamists, but all evidence seems to indicate that behind them stand the USA and the Jewish state falsely called Israel.
Nearly 1,500 years of history show that Christians in Islamic countries were discriminated against but lived fairly peacefully. The greatest problems for followers of Christ arise where the USA has strong influence—for example, in Iraq under Saddam Hussein, followers of the Anointed One lived safely, but everything changed when the USA overthrew this “bad dictator” and introduced democracy. Now followers of Christ have to flee, and this has been happening not just recently but even when American troops were stationed there. Every country where the USA overthrew legitimate governments became a hell for followers of Christ. The same is now true in Syria. Until recently, Christians lived peacefully there, but since the United States began supporting the opposition to the legitimate president, followers of Christ are persecuted.
Let us not be deceived; if something repeats many times, it is not an accident but a rule, and that is how it is everywhere the USA installs its puppet governments. Currently, ISIS operates in Syria, but simultaneously, the USA is training groups in Turkey whose aim is to overthrow the legitimate government in Damascus. These groups later join ISIS and murder Christians. The United States remains silent on the matter, then trains new mercenaries, thereby fueling a conflict that should have long since ended.
There are currently two brutal organizations that murder on a large scale in a manner so cruel that even Hitler appears to be a very cultured dictator observing the rule of law by comparison. Boko Haram and ISIS are weak organizations but, thanks to US support, they are difficult to defeat.
Syria itself would probably be able to handle them if it were not for the coalition centered around Israel and the USA obstructing this country. Because the actual primary goal of this coalition is to eliminate Syria or at least change its government to one submissive to the Beast, since Syria, like Iran, did not join the coalition and resists the Beast.
What can we do in this situation? We must be aware that we cannot stop these events; they are foreseen, and the prophecies will surely be fulfilled. God has ensured that the end will be good, but for now, we must arm ourselves with patience and help others understand the times we live in and where this satanic world is headed. We must also ensure that our Lord Yeshu considers us His servants, not just readers or writers.
In the event of local conflict and persecution, one should flee from the dangerous place (Matthew 10:23), and when our Lord begins to deal with Gog and other nations, nothing remains but to heed the advice from Isaiah.
Isaiah 26:20-21. „Come, my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until the fury has passed by. For behold, the Lord is coming out from his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity, and the earth will disclose the blood shed on it, and will no more cover its slain.”
P.S. Gog and Magog will appear once more in a rebellion at the end of the 1,000-year reign of the Anointed One.
