A warm welcome to everyone! Today we will look at biblical prophecies that specify particular numbers of days. Recently, a question came up about the mysterious numbers in the prophecies, so I decided to take a closer look at them, examine their fulfillment, and summarize the most important information for you in an accessible way. So let’s move on to the prepared material.
I have prepared several slides that will organize our knowledge. Let’s start with the Books of the Old Testament – important phrases and principles already appear there. The Book of Ezekiel is especially valuable for us, because it suggests how to understand prophecies referring to days or years. It gives us a key to interpretation. In chapter 4, verse 5, we read: “I have assigned you the years of their guilt according to the number of days: for three hundred ninety days you shall bear the guilt of the house of Israel.” A moment later, in verse 6, we read: “And when you have completed them, you shall lie down again on your right side and bear the guilt of the house of Judah for forty days. I assign you one day for each individual year.” This is extremely important: here we are clearly shown that in the context of some prophecies, one day symbolizes one year. Of course, biblical numbers should not always be interpreted this way – if it is written that Passover will be in three days, it means three real days, not years. So it is important to use common sense, but it is worth remembering this “day for a year” principle, because it appears in the interpretation of many prophecies.
Now let’s move on to the Book of Daniel, which also uses this symbolism. In chapter 7, verse 25, we read: “He will speak words against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Most High, and he will intend to change times and the Law, and the saints will be given into his hand until a time, times, and half a time.” In this verse, Daniel writes about times that are the measure of the reign of a certain ruler, who was discussed in last week’s article. If someone has not seen it, I encourage them to check it out. As it is written in the verse, this ruler will reign for, “a time”, singular, meaning 1 time, “times”, plural, which corresponds to 2 times, and “half a time”; adding this up gives 3.5 times. Although the text does not reveal to us that this means a specific period of 3.5 years. Still, that is the assumption.
The prophecy from Daniel is connected with the Book of Revelation, where the same thing is said in different words. In chapter 13, verse 5 – we have a figure to whom “was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and it was given authority to continue for forty-two months.” 42 months is precisely 3.5 years, which confirms our earlier understanding of Daniel’s symbolism. Notice the repetition of the theme: in both cases, we are dealing with a period of persecution and blasphemies directed against God and His people, lasting 3.5 years.
Let us recall, this period concerns the end of the present world system – “the ten horns“ from the Book of Daniel are “ten kings“ who are to rule at the close of this satanic order, before Christ, our Lord Yeshu, comes. From these “ten kings“ another one will arise, described as the “little horn”, whose traits match the description of the “beast” from Revelation. For 3.5 years – that is, 42 months – he will oppress the saints, change law and times, blaspheme God, and wage war against His people.
In chapter 8 of the Book of Daniel, verse 14, we read about another period: “For two thousand three hundred evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary shall have its rights restored.” This event most likely was fulfilled in the time of Antiochus IV Epiphanes – the temple was defiled, and after about 2300 days (not years, because then the prophecy still would not have been fulfilled), proper worship was restored in it. Here too the “day for a year” principle should not be applied, because the course of events confirms that real days are meant. Some scholars interpret “evenings and mornings” as sacrifices – morning and evening ones – in that case it would mean half the number of days, but the vast majority believe it refers to 2300 days.
Another important prophecy is the famous “70 weeks” from chapter 9 of the Book of Daniel. Here the “day for a year” principle applies fully: 70 weeks is 490 days, that is, 490 years. These events began with the decree of the Persian king Artaxerxes in 457 BC, which allowed the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the temple. The prophetic period ends around 33-34 AD, that is, at the time of Christ’s death. That is when, as the prophecy says, “Seventy weeks have been determined for your people and your holy city, to put an end to iniquity, to seal up sin and atone for transgression, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophet and to anoint the most holy.” So we see that this prophecy has already been fulfilled. The weeks mentioned, both the “seven weeks and sixty-two weeks” from 9:25, as well as the full 70 weeks, refer to specific events in the history of Israel and the time of Christ’s life. The most important thing is that these periods have already been fulfilled.
Why am I emphasizing this? If we want to learn what awaits us in the future, we should focus on prophecies that have not yet been fulfilled. This is exactly why we study the Book of Revelation, it summarizes and repeats those prophecies that are still to be fulfilled. If some Old Testament prophecy is not repeated in the Book of Revelation, it has most likely already been fulfilled. That is why we do not focus on those passages quite so much. It is similar with the Book of Daniel, which we will now look at, Daniel 9:25-27, so that we can understand this prophecy in a broader, older context. We read there: “Know therefore and understand: From the moment the word was given that Jerusalem would be restored and rebuilt, until the Anointed Ruler, there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; the courtyard and rampart will be rebuilt, but in times full of distress. And after the sixty-two weeks the Anointed One will be cut off and will have nothing… The city and the temple will be destroyed along with the leader who is to come. His end will come amid a flood, and until the end of the war the decreed desolations will continue. He will confirm a covenant with many for one week. And around the middle of the week the bloody sacrifice and the grain offering will cease. And on the wing of the temple there will be an abomination that brings desolation, and it will remain until the end, until the time determined for desolation” As we can see, these are passages that clearly refer to the death of Christ – an event that has already taken place. We then read about a covenant confirmed with many for one week, and that in the middle of that week the bloody sacrifice and grain offering will cease, and on the wing of the temple there will appear an “abomination that brings desolation”, which will remain until the end, until the appointed time of desolation. Most interpreters agree that this period was the destruction of the temple – the moment when sacrifices truly ceased during the Roman siege. It is worth adding that the Romans first withdrew, giving the Jews relative freedom for 3.5 years, then returned and finally destroyed the temple. This is interesting, because for those 3.5 years the Israelites had freedom, and then the final desolation came. These prophecies have already been fulfilled and we should not expect them to be fulfilled again in the future – so let us see what comes next.
In Daniel chapter 12, the motif of 3.5 times appears again. We read about a man clothed in linen garments – that is an interesting comparison. Perhaps let us read Daniel 12:5-7 directly. In the fifth verse of this chapter, Daniel describes two people standing on opposite banks of the river. The prophecy from chapter 11 of Revelation about the “Two Witnesses” who are to prophesy in the days of the end immediately comes to mind. I have the impression that these may be the same ones. Daniel speaks with the man in the linen garment standing above the waters of the river, asking: “How long will it be until the end of these wondrous things?” He hears the answer: “For a time, times, and half a time. All this will be accomplished when the power of the destroyer of the holy people comes to an end.” Here again we see that Satan is given a limited time to persecute God’s people – 3.5 times, that is, as we established, 42 months. Then comes the announcement that many people will understand these events. “I heard, but I did not understand; so I said: ‘Lord, what will be the final outcome of this?'” He receives the answer: “Go, Daniel, for the words have been hidden and sealed until the time of the end. Many will be purified, made white, refined, but the wicked will act wickedly and none of the wicked will understand this, but the wise will understand. And from the time when the daily sacrifice is abolished, the abomination that causes desolation prevails, [there will pass] one thousand two hundred and ninety days. Happy is the one who endures and reaches one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days. But you, go and rest, and you will rise to [receive] your lot at the end of the days.” So we see that Daniel was not to live to see the fulfillment of these prophecies. The question therefore remains: have these events already taken place, or are they still ahead of us?
In my opinion, these prophecies have already been fulfilled – and I will explain why in a moment. In the Book of Revelation, although we find similar prophecies about the persecution of the saints, the specific number of days, such as 1290 or 1335, does not appear in the same form. This suggests that these prophecies had their fulfillment in the first century, in the times of the apostles, mainly in the context of the destruction of the temple, while today they may have only a symbolic second fulfillment, but no longer with a strict number of days. 1290 days does not appear in Revelation, and let me remind you that Revelation contains prophecies that are still to be fulfilled. So since the numbers 1290 or 1335 days are not in the New Testament, it follows that they already had significance earlier. Of course, if in our times we began to observe analogous events and could literally count the days – 1260, 1290, 1335 – then one could consider a secondary fulfillment of these prophecies. For now, however, the Book of Revelation does not give us such a clear signal. Therefore it can be summarized that these numbers are not accidental – this is a detailed calendar, where each successive period is, in a sense, built upon the previous one, leading to the final deliverance. 3.5 times is about 1260 days, 1290 is 30 days more, 1335 another 45 days more, that is, a total of 75 days more than 1260. 1260 appears many times in Revelation, while 2300 days in the Old Testament is probably the full cycle of some period. In summary: everything indicates that most of these prophecies have already been fulfilled, except for 3.5 times, which may refer to the future. Let us now move to Revelation, that is, to what concerns us to a greater extent.
In Revelation there are terms such as 42 months, equal to 1260 days, equal to 3.5 times, that is, 3.5 years. Let us look at Revelation of John 11:2: “But completely reject the outer courtyard of the sanctuary and do not measure it, because it has been given to the nations and they will trample the holy City for forty-two months.” A number appears that takes on symbolic meaning. It is important that at the time these words were being written, the temple no longer existed and was not to be physically rebuilt. Therefore this prophecy most likely does not speak of a building, but of a spiritual assembly, which the Bible calls the temple of God, that is, the community of the faithful, the body of Christ. The Apostle Paul teaches: “You are the temple of God”, which must not be destroyed. This suggests that the prophecy concerns the persecution of the Church by the nations – for 42 months the courtyard, that is, the outer part of the temple, will be trampled. The temple itself – the most holy place – will remain untouched, but the assembly will be surrounded by pressure from the nations.
Next we read about two witnesses who are to prophesy for 1260 days, that is, 3.5 years. Many interpret this literally – as two specific people, perhaps Elijah and Moses, who are to return. However, when the coming of Elijah was foretold, our Lord Yeshu explained that Elijah had already come in the person of John the Immerser, who, although he himself denied it, in fact possessed the same spiritual character and power. In this sense “Elijah returned”, though not literally. Similarly in Revelation, the “Two Witnesses” are not necessarily literal people, but rather spiritual forces present among God’s people – perhaps two groups of people or two manifestations of the special activity of the Spirit of God in the end times. For 3.5 years they will have authority and no one will threaten them, after which there will come a period of their death and humiliation – lasting a symbolic 3.5 days.
We move on – to chapter 12 of Revelation. There appears a woman who flees into the wilderness, where she stays for 1260 days, so once again the motif of 3.5 years. Let us look at this image: “And a great sign appeared in heaven: a Woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.” If this prophecy were in the Old Testament, we would probably read the woman as Israel. However, in the New Testament we recognize in her the Church, the community of the faithful, Christianity. This is not about faithfulness, because in the description of this woman there is no mention of her faithfulness. Let us, however, look further at this passage. “And she is pregnant. And she cries out, suffering the pains and torments of giving birth. And another sign appeared in heaven: Behold, a great fiery-colored Dragon, having seven heads and ten horns – and on his heads seven diadems.” That is, signs of authority. “And his tail sweeps away a third of the stars of heaven: and he threw them to the earth. And the Dragon stood before the Woman who was about to give birth, so that as soon as she gave birth, he might devour her child. And she gave birth to a Son – a Male, who will shepherd all nations with an iron rod. And her Child was caught up to God and to His throne. And the Woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, so that she may be nourished there for one thousand two hundred sixty days.” This number appears again. Notice that for 1260 days this woman has to hide. Interestingly, she does not simply give birth to a child, but specifically to a male – from the context it is clear that this refers to Christ. But in fact Christ had already been born long before; at the time these prophecies were being written, he was not only an adult, but had already died on the cross and was in heaven. Meanwhile, Revelation describes future events, not past ones – it is not a chronicle, but a book revealing things that are yet to happen, as we read at its beginning: “showing his servants what must soon take place”. When reading about the sign of the woman, we no longer understand her as Israel, but as Christianity. Israel, although it was not faithful as a whole, was nevertheless precisely what gave birth to Christ. Similarly Christianity, although it is not fully faithful, is precisely what – in the times of the end – true faith in Christ emerges from again, that is, Christ with the name Yeshu returns, becoming the beginning of a cult. Satan is prepared for this, to destroy this cult, but he does not manage to reach Christ; the cult has begun, which Satan is not pleased with, and Christianity is in some way protected. However, the dragon will still try to attack it, when this Christianity takes refuge in the wilderness – in the period we understand as our times. Personally, I believe that Satan has not yet been cast down to earth. When that happens, violent events will begin on earth, because he will be aware of how little time he has left.
Next we read: the woman flees into the wilderness, and in the seventh verse we have a description of the outbreak of war in heaven. “And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his Messengers [angels] fought a battle with the dragon. And the dragon and his Messengers [angels] fought, but he had no strength, and there was no longer any place found for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, the ancient Serpent, who is called the slanderer [devil] and enemy [Satan], deceiving the whole inhabited earth, he was cast down to the earth, and with him his messengers [angels] were cast down. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven: Now have come the salvation, the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Anointed One, because the accuser of our brothers has been cast down, the one who accuses them before our God day and night. And they conquered thanks to the blood of the Lamb and thanks to the word [teaching] of their testimony, and they did not love their souls — even unto death. Therefore rejoice, heavens and those who dwell in them! Woe to the earth and woe to the sea – because the slanderer [devil] has come down to you, burning with great anger, aware that he has little time.” When Satan is thrown out of heaven, all hell, one might say, will break loose on earth.
“And when the Dragon saw that he had been cast down to the earth, he began to pursue the Woman who had given birth to the Male.” – again understood as Christianity. “And the Woman was given two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, away from the Serpent.” – again 3.5 years. “And the Serpent spewed water like a river from his mouth after the Woman, so that the river might sweep her away.” – in biblical symbolism a river, like the sea, means the human element, so we have here an image of Satan stirring up persecutions of Christianity by aroused crowds. “But the earth – symbolizing stable governments, the state – came to the aid of the Woman and the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed the river that the Dragon had spewed from its mouth.” – meaning it restrains these crowds, most likely through legal regulations. “And the Dragon was enraged with the Woman, and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring, those who keep God’s commandments and have the testimony of Yeshu.” Thus, after a broad attack on all Christianity, Satan directs his actions against a specific, small group of believers. This is only a brief summary of the events described, the key point is that the persecutions spoken of here last 1260 days, that is, again 3.5 years – this period keeps recurring.
Let’s move on now. Look: chapter 13, but before getting to it, even earlier – in chapters eleven and twelve – the number 1260 days appears, and in the thirteenth it appears again, this time as 42 months. Chapter 13, verse 5, speaks of the “beast”: “it was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and it was given authority to continue for forty-two months.” This “beast”, described in Revelation, receives authority from the dragon, that is, from satan. “And the Dragon gave it his power, his throne, and great authority.” Based on earlier analyses, we identify this “beast with Israel” – emerging from the sea, that is, from the nations, having seven heads and ten horns. “And I saw one of its heads as if mortally wounded, and its deadly wound was healed.” – which we interpret as the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948. “And the whole earth marveled and followed the Beast, and they worshiped the Dragon, because he had given authority to the Beast.” This is very important: the dragon persecutes the servants of Christ, and the “beast” – the nation of Israel – will also persecute them, because it receives its power from satan.
Moreover, we read: “And it was given to make war with the saints and to overcome them.” The beast, therefore, will triumph, and Israel will defeat the saints. It will receive authority over all nations, peoples, and languages. For many years you have heard that Israel will cease to exist or will flee – meanwhile the Bible says the opposite: Israel will grow in power, because satan himself will give it power to do evil, under the guise of good. All the people who say something else are simply deceiving you, knowingly or unknowingly. Blind guides who themselves do not know what they are saying. For 13 years now I have been preaching that Israel will be the greatest world power, for two reasons. The first reason is that satan himself will give it his power, the second reason is the joining of other rulers with it – as we analyzed earlier – who will give their strength to the beast, fighting on its side. Israel, despite all the cruel acts it commits, has many supporters among the nations, as these prophecies foretell.
Let’s look again: 42 months in Revelation is 1260 days (counting 30 days per month). A time, times, and half a time is 3.5 years – that is, 42 months. These numbers coincide and confirm one another. What happens then? In Revelation, chapter 11, verse 2 says that the holy city will be trampled for 42 months – that is, for 3.5 years someone foreign will rule there, and in the following verses there appear 1260 days during which the two witnesses will prophesy. Then for 3.5 days (that is, a symbolic 3.5 years) they will be killed and dead, and then they will rise from the dead. Here we have the whole cycle: 3.5 years of victory and preaching, 3.5 years of persecution, the time when the “beast” (Israel) will be the greatest world power. Everyone will pay homage to it, then it will make the “image of the beast” and order people to receive the “mark of the beast”, and all this will happen within those 3.5 years. Knowing this, we can prepare for it. That is why all this is written, for us. The worst thing when someone goes through persecution is the feeling that it will never end, that it will go on without end. Some may say that it is only 3.5 years, but on the other hand it is not a week or even a month, it is quite a long period, especially when we are persecuted, time drags on terribly. We are still before these events, so you can prepare in various ways. How?
The Bible teaches us this. When Pharaoh received a dream about the future of Egypt, Joseph explained to him that seven years of abundance awaited them, and then seven years of famine. How did the Egyptians prepare for that difficult time? They used the years of abundance to gather supplies in order to survive the period of scarcity. And although now it seems that we live in good, peaceful times, we should not allow ourselves to be carefree. Instead, it is worth considering how to prepare for the difficulties that may meet us in the future.
I encourage you to reflect. After all, the Bible mentions that times will come when without accepting the “mark of the Beast” one will be unable either to buy or sell. So how can such a period be survived? Two ways come to mind. First, one can stockpile food. However, if we wanted to prepare for 3.5 years, then for one person that is as many as 1260 days – even assuming one can of food a day, about 1260 cans are needed. And when it comes to a family – that number increases significantly. How many of us are prepared for that? Most often, the supplies at home are enough for only a few days.
It is also worth thinking about other kinds of supplies that can help us survive hard times. Nevertheless, one of the most important ways to survive is to live in harmony and friendship with other people, neighbors and the people around us. If we have kind people around us, not only can we count on their help, but their goodness will also not go unrewarded – even a small gesture, like offering a cup of cold water, matters in the eyes of Christ. Perhaps, by helping others survive difficult times, we will also help them build a better relationship with Christ, even if they do not believe in Him now or make mistakes. Maybe this will be an opportunity for them to reflect and change.
After the 3.5-year period of persecution, which the Bible clearly speaks about – when the saints are symbolically “defeated” and “disappear” – the prophetic resurrection follows. This is described in chapter 11 of the Revelation of John: the “Two Witnesses” come back to life after 3.5 days and ascend to heaven before everyone’s eyes. This is a symbolic representation of the rapture of the Church – the community of believers. At the same time, plagues fall on the earth upon those who accepted the “mark of the beast” and experience great suffering.
When the saints are raptured to heaven, there will be a meeting with Christ, who will return to earth to – as some call it – carry out Armageddon, take power away from Satan and hand it over to his servants. The Beast, that is, Israel together with 10 rulers, will suffer defeat, and with it all other states will fall, giving way to God’s justice.
I wish for you to be among the victors who, after passing through difficulties, will become part of Christ’s army. My task is to encourage you to join His ranks by giving Him your life. If you feel such a calling, come forward to receive immersion in the name of Yeshu and become an ambassador of God’s Kingdom on earth. Think through this decision consciously – difficulties and persecution await you, but this is the path to victory and reigning with Christ.
Thanks for listening until the end. I would be extremely grateful for likes, shares and comments, because it helps grow the channel, which gives a chance to reach even more people.
